Have a special English teacher on your Christmas list? Are you an English teacher who’s creating a wishlist for yourself during Black Friday shopping? You’re in luck! I’ve created the perfect list of gifting ideas for English teachers. Whether you’re looking for practical teaching supplies, great books, or self-care items for a special English teacher, I’ve got the best English teacher gift ideas for you!
Gift Ideas for English Teachers: Teaching Supplies
With the end of the first semester looming, most teachers are running out of the supplies we started the year with. If you’re looking to help that special English teacher restock their classroom supplies, these are some of my favorites that they’ll be sure to love!
Laptop Stand
This is the perfect gift for English teachers to use while grading. I find using this laptop stand makes it more comfortable while I’m grading digital assignments or lesson planning and my desk. Plus, this laptop stand is super easy to assemble: just 3 pieces that slide into place!
BEST PENS FOR TEACHERS
MY NEW FAVORITE: Clickart Pens
Just when I thought I had enough pens, my friend introduced me to these. I love the variety of colors and the case they come with to keep them organized. These have officially replaced flair pens and the Take Note pens as my new favorite.
HONORABLE MENTION: Take Note Pens
If you like flair pens (or want a pen that glides like a marker,) these are a great option. I love using these pens to write positive notes to my students!
HONORABLE MENTION: Flair Pens
Flair pens are an essential in my classroom. I use them for grading, to do lists, and more. Plus, my students love using my flair pens for activities throughout the year.
Take Note Dry Erase Markers
Hands down, these are my favorite dry erase markers. They come in a variety of colors, last a long time, and are very pigmented. They’re sure to be a hit with any teacher on your gifting list!
Magnetic Dry Erase Board Cloths
I will not go back to regular erasers after using these! I have an older dry erase board in my classroom, and these cloths leave less residue than regular dry erase board erasers do. The magnetic dry erase board cloths are washable, durable, and they don’t smear the marker when I try to erase like the regular erasers do. Since they are magnetic, these cloths stick right to your board!
Lined Sticky Notes
Teachers can never have too many sticky notes! The larger ones are perfect for to-do lists, and they come in fun colors.
Laptop Bag
I love using this bag when I have to bring my laptop to trainings or home during a school break. The inside is padded and soft, but the bag isn’t bulky. Plus, there’s plenty of room for my laptop, charger, papers, and more. This one is on sale for Black Friday 2023, so be sure to grab one!
CARDS FOR STUDENTS
I love sending positive notes home during the school year. Plus, I write each of my students a personalized note before the exam, so I try to have several cute cards on hand. I’ve linked my favorites below.

BOOKS FOR AP LANG
While I don’t teach a full length text in my AP® Lang class, I do require my students to do independent reading with a book of their choice. I select a book to read as well. These books have been some of our recent classroom favorites. I’ll be posting a more detailed list of book recommendations soon, so if you are high school English teacher, be sure to sign up for my email list here so that you don’t miss that post.
Killers of the Flower Moon
Several of my AP® Lang students selected this book for an independent read and loved it. I’m loving it too! And, the movie version will be released in 2024-field trip to the theater, anyone?
Bonnie and Clyde
I first came across Bonnie and Clyde: The Making of a Legend when I was looking for titles that my students might enjoy for independent reading. I’d heard of Bonnie and Clyde, but I didn’t know much about them. This book is really interesting, and I think it would be a great source of knowledge for potential argument essays.
Undefeated: Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indian School Football Team
I love having good sports nonfiction books on hand. If you have students who enjoy football, this is a great option.
The Borden Murders: Lizzie Borden and the Trial of the Century
I added this book to my library after some of my self-proclaimed true crime junkie students told me they needed more options of books to read. I’d heard the playground rhyme about Lizzie Borden, but I didn’t know the full story. This was an interesting read, and when I assigned my independent reading project this semester, this was one of the first books to be checked out.
Atomic Habits
Time management and goal setting are two important topics for high school students. Atomic Habits has great anecdotes woven throughout the text, and it offers valuable lessons about how to make effective habits.
The Best English English Gifts: JUST FOR YOU!
Candles from The English Teacher Candle Co.
I LOVE supporting fellow small business owners, so when I realized the owner of The English Teacher Candle Co. was a fellow AP Lang teacher, I knew I had to try one of her candles. Y’all, I’m in love with these candles! I love the sleek aesthetic, and they smell sooo good! I highly recommend the coconut and cedarwood. She even has matchbooks with book covers on them–how cute is that?
Winter Hat with Ponytail Hole
This is the perfect hat for when you have outdoor duty and you want to stay warm but not mess up your hair. There are so many cute colors to choose from, and it’s on sale for Black Friday 2023!
The Perfect Cardigan
Are you even an English teacher without a cardigan? Cardigans are one of the staples of many English teachers’ wardrobes. This soft, cozy cardigan is one of my go-to favorites.
Hey Dudes
As teachers, we are on our feet most of the day. These are my favorite shoes to teach in because they are comfortable and versatile. I love that they come in a variety of colors to coordinate with multiple outfits.
