Wondering what to get an English teacher for Christmas? Or maybe you’re an English teacher who is looking to treat yourself during Black Friday shopping. When it comes to English teacher gifts, I tend to like practical gifts. So, here’s my list of the best English teacher gifts in case you’re not sure what to buy an English teacher.
Great Gifts for English Teachers
It’s no secret that teachers often have to purchase many of their own school supplies. It’s also no secret that many of the supplies we start the year with dwindle by the end of the semester. These are some of my classroom favorites that I’ll be restocking this semester.
Crayola Take Note Dry Erase Markers
I’ll admit I was skeptical when I first bought the Crayola Take Note Dry Erase Markers. I mean…all dry erase markers are the same, right? Nope! These markers come in bright pigmented colors, and they erase easily. So, if you’re wondering what to buy an English teacher, these are a great English teacher gift.
Flair Pens
I LOVE flair pens. Whether it’s commenting on student work or writing (and rewriting) my to-do list, flair pens are my go-to! My students love flair pens too. These are a great English teacher gift idea, and they’re available at most stores.
Magnetic Dry Erase Cloths
Dry erase board erasers do not last long. That’s why I’ve been loving the magnetic dry erase cloths. Not only do they stick to your board but they are also washable. Check them out here.
Dry Erase Hexagonal Magnets
If you’re an English teacher who likes to (or wants to) incorporate hexagonal thinking into your instruction, add 2-3 packs of these dry erase hexagonal magnets to your teacher wishlist. These are a great English teacher gift idea because they are so versatile. This was one of the best English teacher gifts I’ve treated myself to this year. For more information about how to use the hexagonal magnets in AP® Lang, check out this blog post.
Astro Brights Paper
I love using Astro Brights Paper for activities in class. Most recently, we used this brightly colored paper to make paper chains. This activity was a “hands on” approach to understanding line of reasoning. For more information about the activity, check out this blog post.
Recently, another teacher recommended using Astro Brights Lined Paper when doing in class writing. I didn’t realize they made lined paper, but y’all, it’s awesome. If you have students handwrite essays in class over multiple class periods, you can have them write a paragraph on different colored paper. Color-coding the paragraphs helps you see which student is working on which paragraph (which is super helpful when students are absent and making up working.)
Lined Sticky Notes
Confession. I probably go through at least 5 sticky notes a day. Whether it’s writing myself a reminder or jotting down my to-do list, lined sticky notes are my go-to. Plus, they come in fun colors, making them a great English teacher gift idea.
Laptop Bag
Laptop bags make an excellent English teacher gift. Here’s a link to my favorite one. It’s got plenty of space, and the inside is padded and super soft. 10/10 would recommend!
Gift Cards
Where do teachers want gift cards to? It depends on the person, but Target, Amazon, and Starbucks are always great options.

English Teacher Must-Haves
The great thing about gift cards is that you can buy what you need. The English teacher gift ideas above are great for the classroom, but if you’re an English teacher who wants to treat yourself to something special this holiday season, here are some practical recommendations.
- Hey Dudes – My students recommended this brand to me a couple years ago, and I love them. They are super comfortable for a full day of standing on your feet teaching, and there are several color and style options, so you can match them to any outfit. Hey Dudes have become my favorite teacher shoe.
- Cardigans – Are you really an English teacher if you don’t wear a cardigan at least once a week? Better yet, as an English teacher, can you really have too many cardigans? Nope! I’m not a fashion expert, but cardigans are a great way to add a pop of color to an outfit.
- Water Bottles – Water bottles can be a great custom teacher gift. There are so many cute options on ETSY.
